The course, with an experimental focus, plans to work on the intuitive and intellectual origin of contemporary illustration in order to develop its pictorial and philosophical links to the creative act. In particular, the theme of boundaries and horizons will be investigated.
Through the characters of classical tales, fairy tales and fables, a personal path to constructing an illustration will be proposed. We will tackle the definition and construction of new creative structures and experiment with technique using acrylic mediums, producing a series of images.
Programme
1. Concept and discourse
2. An example in the imagery of Hieronymus Bosch
3. Intuitive structures and memories

The works realised by the pupils may be selected to participate in the 41st International Illustration Exhibition Le Immagini della Fantasia (2023 – 2024).
During the course, the students work on the theme of the Exhibition, “Boundaries and Horizons”, and are individually supervised by the teacher in order to obtain a panel, suitable for selection, created according to their preferred technique (mixed media, watercolour, acrylic, collage…). Ten works are selected for each course. The exhibition may be presented in other venues, in addition to the Casa della Fantasia in Sarmede, depending on the programming of the 41st edition.
Enrolment in the advanced course involves an initial selection: you must send 5 of your own illustrations in low resolution, by attachment or by link, to corsi@fondazionezavrel.it by 5 June 2023. In the following days, by 7 June 2023, the outcome of the selection for enrolment will be announced.
