An effective image must be able to stimulate observation on several levels: in this course we will understand how to develop an idea and study composition, starting from the concepts of rhythm, discontinuity and contrast.
We will discover a world of possible visual suggestions and perceptive stimuli: we will understand how our brain captures, processes and interprets the reality that surrounds us, and we will learn how to grasp the possible strategies to create meanings and convey the gaze while viewing an image, with vigour and compositional flair.
We will study the various narrative possibilities that arise from formal relationships, spatial organisation, the choice of colours and the “play of opposites”, which make an image interesting and reinforce its narrative content.
We will address various topics such as chromatic, formal, perceptual and semantic contrasts, implicit lines, tonal values, assonances, rhythm, movement, the expressive potential of forms…
The course aims to develop the following skills:
– knowing how to organise and harmonise composition through the balance of opposites
– being able to identify various types of rhythm and discontinuity
– knowing how to grasp the formal values of visual weight
– knowing how to manage contrasts to direct the gaze into areas of interest
– being able to develop an idea, following the notions learnt
