Lesson 1 – The character
You will play at creating an unexpected character, guided by curiosity and randomness of pre-existing wooden forms. At the same time, you will learn (or improve) the use of materials, woodworking and colouring techniques (glue, screws, sandpaper, enamel, brushes and drilling tools). Through written reflection, aided by questions and suggestions, you will investigate multiple aspects of your character, life and thoughts.
Lesson 2 – The Story
A possible story structure will be presented through examples and readings from illustrated books. Through a small creative game, you will then insert your character into a narrative structure, of which you will write a first draft. The stories created can then be shared with all the participants. The most important and characterising elements of each narrative (actions, objects, environment) will be identified.
Lesson 3 – The diorama
Each participant will create the structure of a particular frame: a diorama. Like a wooden illustration, the diorama will contain the character and the main elements of the story. Using pieces of spruce, pine, poplar, plywood and other materials, worked with various cutting and perforating tools, you will have the opportunity to create settings and objects to complete your story with wood.
