The horizon is a strange thing, the closer you get to it, the more it escapes.

My world is smaller. As a child I believed that the world ended right behind my village. Just behind the forest that surrounded it.

Among the ideas of boundaries, of limits, the one I prefer is the idea of edge. Where one thing ends and another barely begins.
Like when you come out of the forest and are about to sink into the tall grass of the prairie.
The space where the two coexist. The edge contains the possibilities of both places, it also contains the choice to move on or turn around, if you wish.
It is the place of all doubts, of all questions, it is the place where everything becomes more intense, just because you can lose it. I have never felt the forest more intensely than when I was at its edge, feeling the trees behind me and all the mystery it contained, and preparing to leave it.
Joanna Concejo’s course is an advanced course that gives the opportunity to participate in the selection to exhibit in the future edition of the exhibition “Mostra Le Immagini della Fantasia – sezione Scuola Internazionale d’Illustrazione (41^ edizione, 2023 – 2024)”.
During the course the students work on the theme, as indicated in the contents “Boundaries and Horizons” and are individually supervised by the teacher in order to obtain a panel, suitable for selection, created according to their preferred technique (mixed media, watercolour, acrylic, collage…). Ten works are selected for each course. The exhibition may be presented in other venues, in addition to the “Casa della Fantasia” in Sarmede, depending on the programming of the 41st edition.
Application for the advanced course involves an initial selection: 5 illustrations in low resolution must be sent, by attachment or via link, to corsi@fondazionezavrel.it by 29 May 2023. In the following days, by 2 June 2023, the outcome of the selection for registration will be announced.
