Silvia Vecchini, writer and poet, graduated in Modern Literature with a thesis on the poetic works of Primo Levi. She also earned a Diploma in Advanced Specialization in Religious Sciences with a thesis on picture books and the inner world of children.
Her unpublished poems were written by Erri De Luca in Alzaia (Feltrinelli, 1997).
In 1999, she published Diverse fedeltà (Guerra Edizioni), which won the Diego Valeri Prize for Best First Work. Some of the poems in this collection were included in the anthology I poeti di vent’anni (Stampa), curated by Mario Santagostini (foreword by Maurizio Cucchi).
Since 2000, she has been writing for children and young adults: picture books, early readers, novels, poetry collections, and graphic novels. Many of her books have been translated into various languages (USA, Russia, China, France, Spain, Brazil, Slovenia, Poland, Turkey, South Korea, and others).
For the publisher Topipittori, she has published three poetry collections: Poesie della notte, del giorno, di ogni cosa intorno (2014), In mezzo alla fiaba (2015), and Acerbo sarai tu (2019). Her verse novel Prima che sia notte was published by Bompiani in 2020.
A joint project with Marina Marcolin, focused on poetry and drawing, was at the heart of the Planetarium section of the Sàrmede Illustration Exhibition (2014).
In 2015, she published Potature (Officina della Narrazione) and created the project Disegni DiVersi in collaboration with comic artist Sualzo for the radio show Caterpillar (Rai Radio 2).
Her work was the focus of the exhibition Poesia di ogni cosa intorno organized by Libri Fatti a Mano in Pieve Santo Stefano (Arezzo, 2019) and the exhibition Sulla punta delle cose. Dieci passi nella scrittura di Silvia Vecchini (Imola 2021/22).
She conducts poetry workshops for children and young adults and leads writing groups for adults.
