Collage: An Experiential Journey

This course is designed for anyone who wishes to explore their creativity through the technique of collage. No prior artistic experience is required.
Through hands-on activities and opportunities for observation, discussion, and sharing, participants will experiment with the principles of visual composition specific to the
collage technique, learning to arrange images, colors, and shapes in a conscious and expressive way.
Focused on enhancing each participant’s personal experience, the course aims to develop collage as a tool for enhancing aesthetic sensitivity, design skills, and freedom of expression. The emphasis is primarily on the creative process rather than the final aesthetic result. Participants will thus acquire practical tools to interpret, design, and independently use the collage technique as a means of personal and creative expression.

Collage as a Form of Expression:
• collage in modern and contemporary art;
• the choice, selection, juxtaposition, and transformation of images;
• the study of materials and the creative potential of the technique.
Visual Composition:
• balance and tension;
• symmetry and asymmetry;
• chromatic, formal, and conceptual contrasts;

• the hierarchy of elements;
• the organization and placement of elements in space.
Compositional experimentation:
• composing using the method of chance;
• creating a composition based on contrast;
• the repetition of the same image: strategies and methodology;
• placing a main element within the compositional space.

Good manual skills.

Participants are responsible for providing their own art supplies.

The following list outlines the basic supplies required:

• basic stationery;

• vinyl glue (small tube);

• glue stick;

• a pair of large scissors;

• a pair of small scissors;

• precision scalpel (cutter);

• fine-, medium-, and coarse-grit sandpaper;

• a sheet of white tissue paper, as transparent as possible;

• paper tape;

• 3M opaque clear tape;

• primary acrylic paints, white, and black (small tubes);

• colored pencils;

• watercolors;

• oil pastels;

colored inks (primary colors or other shades of your choice);

• primary tempera paints, white, and black (small tubes);

• 2 plain white candles;

• various magazines, both weekly and monthly (at least 10 copies); 2 inexpensive broad-bristled flat brushes (medium and large sizes);

• 2 inexpensive fine-bristled brushes (small and medium sizes);

• white A4-sized cardstock (at least 20 sheets).

Note on Choosing Magazines

We recommend carefully selecting the magazines, grouping them by topic (for

example: fashion, science, design, nature, current events, and general news). We also

encourage you to prioritize magazines containing only photographs, avoiding publications with illustrations or drawings.

Transportation
A free shuttle service is available from the Sacile train station (the closest to Sarmede) to the accommodations and from there to the course locations for the entire duration of the training activities.

To provide your arrival time and other useful logistical information for your stay in Sarmede, you will be sent a Google Form via email in a timely manner to fill out.
