Daily post-its. Embroidering small sacred worlds

Through the practice of embroidery and a personal exploration of memories, dreams, and everyday notes, each participant will create a fabric amulet containing a small sacred world to carry with them at all times. The workshop will alternate between moments of theory and research, and moments of hands-on practice and sharing, exploring both embroidery and its graphic possibilities, as well as the technique of papiers découpés, using various types of paper cut and assembled onto fabric.

Lesson 1

After introducing the idea of the amulet—its meaning, function, and structure—each participant will choose the memory, event, or person to whom they wish to dedicate it through a personal exploration of symbols, images, and words. At the same time, we will begin to approach the technique of embroidery. After presenting the main stitches, we will start practicing and become familiar with the tools and materials, exploring their expressive potential.

Lesson 2

Following the presentation of a selection of visual references for inspiration, each participant will design their amulet through the choice of colors and the creation of a preparatory sketch. Projects may be shared during a collective discussion and feedback session. We will then move on to selecting the threads, papers, and embroidery stitches best suited to each individual project.

Lesson 3

Each participant will begin creating their project on fabric, starting from a preparatory drawing and then moving on to embroidery, followed by the incorporation of papiers découpés. Once this stage is complete, the front and back pieces will be sewn together, followed by the final folding process, transforming the work into a pocket-sized, secret amulet to be carried close at hand.

Good manual skills.

The cost of artistic and technical materials is the responsibility of the participants.

The instructor will provide each participant with a kit including fabric, needles, and an embroidery hoop. Threads and colored papers in a variety of colors and types will be made available for shared use throughout the workshop.

Participants are also asked to bring:

  • UHU gel glue
  • One pair of small scissors and one pair of medium-sized scissors
  • A pencil and an eraser
  • Two buttons
  • Assorted reclaimed colored papers of different types and colors.
