The song of birds

Legends, poems, and watercolor impressions

The course The song of birds: legends, poems, and watercolor impressions explores the rich and diverse world of birds—creatures that connect us to nature and have long inspired legends and poetry.
We will seek ways—both symbolic and expressive—to represent them, drawing inspiration from photographic material, poetic texts, ancient legends, and naturalistic writings.

We will work with care on drawing and composition. The main techniques used will be watercolor and graphite. Advanced students may arrange to use their own preferred techniques.
The course is open to all levels, and the instructor will provide individual guidance based on each student’s skills and experience.

The course includes readings from a selection of poems and naturalist texts. These will serve as inspiration for developing a visual path made up of pencil sketches and notes—kept in a sketchbook or sketchpad—through both iconographic research (books and web) and personal reflection.

From this material, students will create one or more illustrations that symbolically and expressively represent the chosen bird—or birds—from a selection provided.
The teacher will offer one-on-one guidance throughout the creative process, from concept and sketch to composition and final execution.

Basic drawing skills.

Technical art materials are the responsibility of the participant.
