Illustrating a Short Story About Happiness

The course begins with the development of the project through preparatory studies, defining both the medium and techniques.
Once the storyboard is finalized, participants move on to creating the final illustrations.
The printmaking techniques used include monotype, drypoint, silhouette printing, and EVA foam printing, which may be combined with other media such as watercolor, ink, tempera, acrylic, collage, and colored pencils.

The program also includes one morning outside the School’s premises, practicing drawing from life and collecting plants. The destination is the Cansiglio Forest.
Each day also includes a moment for presenting and discussing the work in a group setting.

This course allows participants to take part in the selection process for the 2025 Christmas postcards and greeting cards by A.B.C. – Associazione Bambini Chirurgici del Burlo.
A.B.C. provides free hospitality and support to children hospitalized in the Surgery Department of IRCCS Burlo Garofolo in Trieste and their families.

During the course, participants may choose to work on illustrations that could be selected by A.B.C. and included in their holiday solidarity catalogue.
All proceeds from the sale of the 2025 holiday cards will go to support A.B.C.’s projects.
Participation in the course thus also supports the mission of A.B.C.

Technical art materials are the responsibility of the participant.

• Tracing paper
• Soft and hard pencils
• A4 or A3 sketchpad
• Various types of paper
• 1 or 2 sheets of lightweight printmaking paper (150–200 gsm)
• Watercolors, tempera, inks and nibs
• Colored pencils
• Bristle brushes for oil paints and synthetic brushes for watercolor and tempera

• Scissors and cutter
• Oil paints for monotype printing: black, yellow, blue, red, and white
• A rubber roller
• A ruler
• Pritt stick glue

Participants are welcome to use the materials they normally work with and are not required to follow this list strictly.

It is recommended to bring a container for water, a palette (or plates) for mixing colors, and a cloth for drying.
