Luigi Dal Cin
Luigi Dal Cin, born in Ferrara where he lives, has published over 100 books of children’s fiction. Translated into 14 languages (English, French, Spanish, German, Portuguese, Japanese, Mandarin, Cantonese, Korean, Thai, Russian, Turkish, Polish, Danish) he has already received a dozen national awards for children’s literature, including the 2013 Andersen Prize as author of the best book 6/9 years old. In 2017, he was awarded the Troisi Prize for his activity in writing for children and meeting-shows with pupils all over Italy. Adjunct professor of the three annual courses in Creative Writing at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Macerata since 2016, he has also been teaching writing techniques courses on writing for children for the Holden School in Turin since 2017, and for the International School of Illustration of the Fondazione Zavřel in Sarmede (TV) since 2006, for the first-level academic Master’s degree Ars in Fabula since 2008, for Cafoscariletteratura in Venice, for the Movie Days of the Giffoni Film Festival, for the Fondazione Musei Civici in Venice, for Fondazione Radio Magica Onlus, for Camù Centri d’Arte e Musei in Cagliari, for Teste Fiorite in Venice. An author and director for the theatre, he has collaborated with actor and radio presenter Marco Presta. He is on the jury of literary prizes including, since 2016, the Children’s Literature Prize of Cento, and he is president of the jury of the National Literary Prize Uniti per Crescere. From 2009 to 2019, he was president of the jury of the Anna Osti National Prize for Unpublished Fiction for Children. Theses on his work have been discussed at the Universities of Roma Tre, Milan, Udine, Padua, Catania and Ferrara. He gave a Lectio Magistralis on writing for children at the Accademia della Crusca, in Florence, on the occasion of the 2011 Italian Language Olympiad organised by the Ministry of Education, University and Research. Since 2003, for fifteen years, she has collaborated with the International Exhibition of Illustration for Children ‘Le Immagini della Fantasia’ in Sarmede (TV), curating the theme and fairy tales proposed. From 2010 to 2019, she collaborated with Palazzo dei Diamanti in Ferrara with an editorial, didactic and theatrical project to tell the exhibitions to children and young people. For Monumenti Aperti, she devised the project Le parole della bellezza (The words of beauty), which she has been leading since 2013 to tell the story of Italy’s historical-artistic-cultural heritage together with pupils. His tireless and passionate activity of shows, meetings with authors and writing workshops brings him to meet tens of thousands of children and young people every year in theatres, schools and libraries throughout Italy.
